Yoga Therapy For The Nervous System (ONLINE)
5 Days Intensive Practice Course with Jeenal Mehta
Yoga enhances our brain’s ability to form new connections, allowing new pathways to appear, and adjust our response to sudden changes in the environment. With yoga we train ourselves to remain calm in times of stress. We allow the rational thinking part of the brain to take control back from our amygdala, the emotional side of our brain, and reduce the fight-or-flight response. We will practice a set of techniques which will stimulate some very important nerves like the vagus nerve, a long and powerful nerve that connects the brain and gut together. It runs from the brain, passing and contacting the tongue, vocal cords, throat, heart, lungs, diaphragm, liver, spleen, large intestine, small intestine, pancreas and kidneys, ending as a ball of nerve endings in the stomach. Our experience of the world depends entirely on the state of our nervous system. This, in turn, is influenced by a host of factors – genes, diet, environment, and lifestyle. If the nervous system is fresh and rested, the body is healthy and the mind is alert. As a result, our thoughts are powerful and clear, our actions, which are manifested thoughts, are successful and rewarding. However, if our system is strained, because of trauma, overactivity, overthinking and daily stress, then our outlook becomes restricted, the mind dull, our actions ineffectual. Our life becomes shallow and unsatisfactory, prey to negativity. These techniques of yoga will revitalize the nervous system so the body enjoys better health and more energy. The rested mind is freed from the burden of past experience and brings a true feeling of joy and happiness.
